Acorn Minutes for February 9, 2007

Board in Attendance: Wendy Davis, Lordelyn del Rosario-Dacanay, Michelle Jones, Susan Hunter, Marcia Burton

Members of the public/members/staff: Wendy McCully

 

Call to order – Meeting opened at 9:10 am

I. Treasury Report

A.      Michelle reported the current balance to be $5309.21 Wendy D. made a motion to approve the treasury report.  Lordelyn seconded. Unanimous vote in favor of the motion.

B.       Discussion on making individual holidays as work days.  Wendy D made a motion to make individual holidays as workdays. Lordelyn seconded. Unanimous vote in favor of the motion.

 

 

II.       Parent Meeting Recap

A.      Parent meeting went well. Four people didn’t attend.  We still need more member surveys. 

B.  During Fall, there will be an orientation for new members.

 

III.     Discuss Handling of Non-Participating Members

A.      Board discussed the issue of non-participating members.  Wendy D. will call members who are not participating.

 

IV.     Fundraising Items

A.       T-shirt fundraiser – Susan will check on number of t-shirt orders. . 

B.       Rummage sale will be May 19th.

 

V.       Days for Board Meetings

A.      Discussion on future board meetings. The dates will be as follows: March 6th, 8:30 am – 10:30 am, April 3, 8:30 am – 10:30 am, and May 1, 8:30am – 10:30 am

 

VI.     Work Party

A.      The work party will be Saturday, February 17, 2007.

 

VII.    Registrar Report

A. Discussion on fee for infants.  Wendy D made a motion to start tuition for infants when they turn 6 months, starting in fall.  Lordelyn seconded. Unanimous vote in favor of the motion.

B.  Discussion on fall enrollment list. Wendy D made a motion to have the fall enrollment list by June 1.   Lordelyn seconded. Unanimous vote in favor of the motion. Members will be given a continuation form in May and will have to return by the end of May to be on the fall enrollment list.

 

VIII. Items for Discussion

A.      Maternity leave specifics – can summer babies take a three-month leave during fall?  Board clarified that the “three months” maternity leave starts after birth or placement of child. If members need more than three months, they are allowed to take extra time off, but will still need to pay tuition after the three months.

 

B.       Health Notice Review - Board discussed that we will not send a mass e-mail to members regarding health. Board will research health notices from reliable third party such as American Academy of Pediatrics, CDC and have this information available for members.

 

C.       Pre K Instruction for those entering Kindergarten in fall.  Wendy M will develop an appropriate pre-K instruction program to be implemented in the spring.

 

D.      CPPNS Convention March 16-17 in Millbrae

Wendy D made a motion to send Wendy M to the CPPNS Convention.  Michelle Seconded. Unanimous vote in favor of the motion.

 

E.       Literacy – As part of the pre-K program, Acorn will start having literacy props. 

 

F.       Community Building – Wendy M discussed ideas of community building in Acorn such as honoring babies, parent icebreakers, etc.

 

G.       Hearing Screenings – Wendy M discussed continuing hearing screenings.  In addition, Michelle brought up Michelle DiDiego’s program with the health department to do assessments on kids 0-5.  Wendy M will discuss with Michelle further. 

 

H.      Children of the World Series – Wendy M discussed upcoming presentations for Children of the World Series – Kirsten - Music around the world,  Barbara - Canada, Ms Gail -  Japan

 

Next meeting will be Tuesday, March 6, 8:30 am.  Meeting adjourned 11:00 am.
