Acorn Minutes for March 6, 2007
Board in Attendance: Wendy Davis, Lordelyn del Rosario-Dacanay, Michelle Jones, Susan Hunter, Marcia Burton
Members of the public/members/staff: Wendy McCully, Trina Bergman
Call to order – Meeting opened at 9:10 am
I. Treasury Report
A. Michelle reported the current balance to be $8995.31 Wendy D. made a motion to approve the treasury report. Lordelyn seconded. Unanimous vote in favor of the motion.
II. 2007-2008 Grant Review
A. Wendy gave an update on increasing employee hours. Wendy M. and Kirsten will receive an extra day a month.
III. Fundraising Items
A. T-shirt update: 41 t-shirts were ordered, Susan needs to collect 2 checks from 2 parents
B. Acorn will begin scholarship campaign. The goal will be to get two full year scholarships to cover recent request. Susan will draft a letter to local organizations and businesses requesting donations for scholarships.
IV. Work Party Saturday April 14
A. Wendy D. – Church requesting help at thier work day. This can be part of the member work party commitment time.
B. There will possibly gardening for a work party in May.
V. Registrar Report
A. Discussion on recent request of payment of half month of March by leaving member. Also there was a question regarding another member $25 payment being used for the month of February or used as registration.
Michelle made a motion that members who enroll in Acorn between the 1st and the 14th will be responsible for paying the full month and those who start after the 14th, will be responsible for half of the month. Wendy seconded. Unanimous vote in favor of the motion.
VI. Church Items
A. Acorn made a recent request for use of space in back half, two days a week, starting in April, 11-11:45, for the pre-K program.
VII. School Readiness Discussion
A. First 5 has asked Acorn to be part of the School Readiness Grant. Wendy M. and Wendy D recently met with Jeane Hetland. Wendy M. and Wendy D. discussed meeting with the board. Board will communicate with members via USPS mail, and ask for member feedback and present advantages/ disadvantages of Acorn at the present and Acorn if we are part of the School Readiness Grant.
VIII. Items for Discussion
A. ACP Newsletter – Lordelyn will take over the newsletter. Please submit items a week before the board meeting, Lordelyn will get a draft of the newsletter to the board meeting for board members to review.
B. Update on quarterly jobs status. Trina B updated board on prices for cork boarding.
C. Mother’s and Father’s Day gifts. Wendy M. asked board members to start thinking of possible gifts.
D. New song book or recipe book – Wendy M. was thinking of updating the song book that Madeline created last year and also creating a recipe book for the end of the year.
E. Upcoming special events – March 15th Green Day, March 19th field trip to Country Kitchen Herb Garden, and the Safe At Home event will be coming in April.
F. Children of the World Series – 3/8 – Barbara Irion, Canada 3/12 Jaime Ennis, Brazil, 3/22 – Gail Vanderslik, Japan.
Next meeting will be Tuesday, April 3, 8:30 am. Meeting adjourned 10:15 am.
